Journey to Growth: Empowering Cultural Capital

The concept of “cultural capital” was introduced by the esteemed French thinker, Pierre Bourdieu, in the 1970s. It encompasses the social and cultural knowledge that enables students not just to progress, but to excel. This form of capital is essential—it educates students to be discerning citizens, acquainted with the finest thoughts and expressions, and cultivates an appreciation for human creativity and achievement.

At Finesse Travel Club, we firmly believe that exposure to diverse cultural experiences significantly benefits children from underserved communities, leading to improved academic performance and broader life skills. The more extensive their knowledge base, the better equipped they are to interpret and engage with the world around them. Indeed, the accumulation of cultural capital is crucial for social advancement.

Yet, it’s a sad truth that students from disadvantaged backgrounds often lack access to the enriching experiences that foster cultural capital. Our Journey to Growth initiative aims to change that. We provide funding for educational trips locally and nationwide, sponsor annual visits to Washington D.C., and facilitate college tours to universities in Florida and Historically Black Colleges and Universities across the United States. Our goal is to bridge these gaps, ensuring that all students have the opportunity to develop their cultural capital and, as a result, enhance their influence in society.
